New Business Checklist

You’ve got a business idea and ensured viability by completing a Business Model Canvas. Now it’s time to start working towards launch using our New Business Checklist.

While each business idea has a slightly unique path on its way to market, all businesses have some fundamental tasks that must be completed before launching.

Legal Tasks

From choosing a business name to selecting your business entity type, there are specific legal tasks a business owner must complete to properly form a business.

Accounting Tasks

Once you’ve established your entity legally (after consulting with both a lawyer and an accountant), it’s time to get set up financially. Hiring an accountant and setting up a bookkeeping system is essential to success from day one.

Marketing Tasks

While hopefully your initial research gave you insight into your target audience, now the real marketing work starts. It’s not a “build it and they come” situation. You must figure out who your customer is and how to reach them. This will involve everything from messaging and branding to website to email marketing and more.

Insurance Tasks

Insurance is an often overlooked part of launching a business, but something you shouldn’t ignore. Consult with an insurance agent and protect your business and personal assets!

Obviously there is more to it than the little tidbits mentioned above, which is why we created the New Business Checklist.  This downloadable step-by-step guide and checklist outlines all the tasks you need to complete in order to launch your business.  It also includes links to valuable resources to help you knock out the list.

Is it really that simple?

While it would be great if everything went as planned and you checked off each task on the New Business Checklist in sequential order, but for most entrepreneurs that’s just not how things go.

The truth is you’ll have setbacks and make mistakes.  You may have to consult with a few professionals to find the best one for you. You might have to hire out more tasks than you anticipated.

The path to a successful business launch is typically not a straight line. Enlisting the support of a coach or mentor can help prevent you from making some mistakes. But they can’t protect you from everything, including yourself and the process of learning how to be an entrepreneur.
