You’ve got a big idea. Now it’s time to get others to believe in it, too. That’s what a pitch is, your chance to share your dream in a way that makes people say, “I want in.”
Think of your pitch like building a bridge. On one side is your idea. On the other side are the people who can help make it real, investors, partners, or mentors. Your job is to build a bridge strong enough that they’ll want to cross.
And to do that, you need two things: heart and numbers.
Heart makes them care.
Numbers make them trust you.
Let’s break it down.
1. Start with the Heart
Before you share your idea, tell the story behind it. What problem are you solving? Why does it matter to you? How does it help real people? When you start with heart, you pull people in.
Try this: Talk about one person or moment that inspired your idea. Make it real, not “business-y.”
2. Back It Up with Numbers
Once you’ve got their attention, show the proof. How many people want this? How big is the market? How much will it cost, and make? Numbers are your bridge supports. They show that your dream isn’t just exciting, it’s possible.
Try this: Pick three key numbers to share, your market size, your traction (like sign-ups or pre-orders), and your plan for growth. Keep it short and clear.
3. Make It Simple
If people can’t understand your idea fast, they won’t invest. Use plain words. Skip the buzzwords. Pretend you’re explaining your business to a 10-year-old. If they get it, you nailed it.
Try this: Ask a friend to repeat your pitch back to you. If they get confused, tighten it up.
4. Practice Out Loud
Even the best ideas fall flat if you sound nervous or unsure. Practice until your words feel natural. Record yourself, time yourself, and smile when you speak. Confidence is contagious.
Try this: Stand up, breathe, and talk slower than you think. Pauses make you sound calm and in control.
End with a Clear Ask
Don’t just trail off with “So yeah…” tell them what you want! Do you need funding? A mentor? A partnership? Be direct. People want to help, they just need to know how.
Try this: End your pitch with, “Here’s what we need next,” and say it with a smile.
Here’s the Truth
A great pitch isn’t about fancy slides or big words.
It’s about connection.
Lead with heart.
Prove it with numbers.
And say it like you mean it.
That’s how ideas turn into impact.
