Who Won the 2024 Start Here Pitch Competition?

Quantum Turf Takes Home $10,000 at the 2024 Start Here Pitch Competition

On November 20, 2024, entrepreneurial energy filled the air at 37 Cedar as The Biz Foundry hosted the annual Start Here Pitch Competition. Local innovators took to the stage to pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges and a live audience, vying for cash prizes and a chance to take their ventures to the next level.

This year’s competition was a showcase of innovation, creativity, and determination, proving that the Upper Cumberland region is a thriving hub for entrepreneurial growth.

And the Winner Is…

Matthew Martin with Quantum Turf claimed the $10,000 grand prize for his groundbreaking SaaS solution tailored to the agricultural green industry. Quantum Turf uses advanced AI to optimize lawn care programs based on location, soil conditions, weather, and property needs. It’s a game-changer for lawn care businesses, offering a path to reduce costs, increase sustainability, and boost profitability.

Matthew shared that the funds will be used to further refine the platform’s user experience and interface, ensuring a smooth launch that delivers results for customers.

Second Place and Audience Choice: Platformworx

Taking home the second-place prize—and the Audience Choice Award—was Platformworx, an innovative solution for hairstylists. Platformworx developed a tool that helps hairstylists comfortably serve taller clients by reducing the need to lift their arms and hands above their heads for extended periods. Their pitch resonated with judges and audience members alike for its blend of practicality and creativity.

Third Place: Mountain Top Candle Shop

Rounding out the top three was Lyndsee Campbell with Mountain Top Candle Shop, a local business with a fresh idea for branding through custom scents. Their vision is to help businesses enhance their marketing efforts by creating unique candles tailored to evoke the essence of their brand.

A Community of Innovation

This year’s $10,000 grand prize was made possible thanks to the generous support of Launch Tennessee and the Tennessee Tech Center for Rural Innovation.

The Start Here Pitch Competition serves as a platform to celebrate local entrepreneurs, support innovative ideas, and help grow scalable businesses that can make a significant impact on the Upper Cumberland region.

Jeff Brown, President and CEO of The Biz Foundry, explained the mission behind the competition:
“We answered the question: how do we bring the spotlight to new start-ups that can grow to give major contributions to the local economy? It’s proof that you actually can start here.”

Looking Ahead

The competition isn’t just about winning—it’s about showing what’s possible when entrepreneurs are supported with the right resources, mentorship, and funding.

Next year’s Start Here Pitch Competition is already in the works and tentatively scheduled for November 2025, during Global Entrepreneurship Week.
