If you’ve followed me on social media or ever stopped by the office between May and July, you already know that I love the Fourth of July. From the stars and stripes to the grilled hot dogs, fireworks, and warm summer nights, it’s hands-down my favorite time of year.
But beyond the red, white, and blue, what I truly love is what the holiday stands for: freedom.
Even in a time when our country feels divided, I still find joy in celebrating the life, opportunities, and choices we get to make here in America. And to me, there’s no greater symbol of freedom than owning your own business.
The Spirit of Independence
July 4, 1776, when our Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, they made a bold statement: we’re ready to do this on our own. We want a better way.
Sound familiar?
That’s exactly what so many entrepreneurs feel when they leave a traditional job to chase something of their own. It’s brave. It’s bold. And it’s not without bumps in the road, just like it wasn’t back then.
Every day, brave men and women step out of the comfort of a steady paycheck and into the unknown of building something meaningful. Some chase loud, bold business dreams, like fireworks lighting up the sky. Others pursue something quieter but just as beautiful, like that soft sparkle of gold that gently falls from a firework above.
What Freedom Really Looks Like
Here’s the thing, entrepreneurial freedom doesn’t mean sipping margaritas at noon or taking Fridays off (though hey, sometimes that happens!). More often, it means answering emails at 9 pm or missing vacation because you’re all-in on your dream.
But it also means choosing your path. It means not having to ask a boss if you can sneak out early to catch your daughter’s softball game. It means taking pride in your wins, your work, your vision, your growth.
It’s not easy. But it’s empowering.
A Season to Start Something
One of my favorite things about fireworks is the anticipation. You never know which one will be a loud boom or a quiet shimmer. I feel the same when someone shares a new business idea. I get that same spark of excitement, waiting to see how it will shine.
If you’ve been sitting with that business idea, just waiting for the “right time,” this season of independence might be your sign.
Starting a business isn’t for the faint of heart, but if what you’re craving is freedom of time, of direction, of purpose… it might be exactly what you need. And the best part? You don’t have to go it alone. That’s why places like The Biz Foundry exist: to support you through every phase of the journey.
This Fourth of July, while you’re watching the fireworks burst overhead, I hope you also take a moment to celebrate your independence. The freedom to choose. The courage to dream. And the power to build something of your own.
And if you’re not there yet, but you want to be, let’s talk. I’d love to help you get started.
